About Symphony San Jose
Entering its 21st season, Symphony San Jose’s unique artistic identity has enabled it to become one of Silicon Valley’s premier cultural institutions. The Symphony’s innovative business model utilizes a roster of distinguished guest conductors in lieu of a resident music director. With an annual operating budget of $4 million, the Symphony offers a seven-concert classical subscription series, films with live orchestral accompaniment, education and community concerts, and a variety of special programming. It is an anchor tenant of San Jose’s magnificently restored California Theatre, with additional performances given at the Center for Performing Arts and other Bay Area venues.
Symphony San Jose operates under a collective bargaining agreement with AFM Local 6 and guarantees a minimum of 45 services per year. For the 2024-2025 season, per service rates are $165 – $180 for section, $189.75 – $207 for assistant principal, and $206.25 – $225 for principal.
